Meet Step Gazelle: a step goal that starts where you are
Step Gazelle is an iOS step tracker that sets daily goals based on your actual step data, so it's always achievable while moving you forward.

Most step apps start with a number like 10,000 and ask you to hit it. If you walk 4,000 steps on a normal day, 10,000 is an overnight lifestyle change (which doesn't work for most people). If you already walk 12,000 every day, it's not a goal because you clear it without trying.
Step Gazelle works the other way around by looking at what you actually walked and sets the goal from that.
How the goal works
Every day, the app reads your last 30 days of steps from Apple Health and finds your third lowest day. That number becomes today's goal, capped at a target you choose (8,000 by default).
A few things follow from that:
- The goal is always reachable. You have already walked that far on almost every day of the past month, so it is never out of reach on day one.
- It grows with your habit, not your best day. One big walk does not move it. Raising your lower days is the only way to raise the goal.
- It can come back down. If you walk less for a while, the goal follows you down instead of staying out of reach. Missing a day still breaks your streak, unless you use a pass.
Life gets in the way sometimes. If you miss a day while traveling or sick, you can spend a pass to save your streak. That day is also left out of the goal math, so a few rough days does not drag your goal down. You get three passes in any 30 day window.
A gazelle that walks with you

The Today screen shows a gazelle crossing a savanna. It moves along as your steps add up, and when you reach your goal it gets to drink at the watering hole at the end. Underneath are your step count, your streak and the passes you have left.
Private, and free to start
Your step data stays on your phone. There is no account to make.
The adaptive goal, Apple Health sync, streaks and passes are all free. A one time $9.99 Premium upgrade unlocks a Home Screen widget with the gazelle on it, a difficulty setting that picks which of your days sets the goal, and your full Trends history. There is no subscription.
Step Gazelle runs on iPhone with iOS 16 or later. You can download it on the App Store, and if you have questions, the support page has answers.
